He is the Head of the Materials Chemistry Research Group and a Senior Academic in The University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity Hall College in Cambridge with over 25 years of research experience.

He is a Ph.D. from McMaster University, Canada and B.Tech (Hons) from IIT-Bombay in Materials Science & Metallurgy.

He has published over 320 papers, 17 patents, 5 Chapters in Handbooks and 1 edited book (High energy density Li batteries, Wiley-VCH 2010). He is a member of the organizing committee of over 25 international conferences and workshops and holds Honorary/Guest Professorship in 4 Universities in China (2008, 2012 and 2016). He has received an Honorary Engineering Degree in University of Malaysia (2011). He has a rich history of converting research into industrial applications.

He has won several prestigious awards like:

  • Kroll Medal from IOM3 for translating research into industrial applications (2014)

  • Armorers & Brasiers Venture Prize in 2008 for the paste to paste Lead recycling. Technology licensed to Aurelius Environmental Group and certified as a commercially viable solution by Johnsons Control Solutions USA

  • Dow Sustainability Innovation Runners-up prize in 2012 for a new metal–oxide photo catalyst composite material capable of absorbing both UV and visible light with reaction rates that are up to 2-orders of magnitude faster for disinfecting water and for destroying pollutants in air: Received Grant from IEEE for flood-hit regions

  • Dow Sustainability Student Innovation Grand Award in 2013 for developing the use of nano-carbon scaffolds infiltrated with sulphur in order to fabricate new Li-S batteries with energy densities that are 100% higher than the best Li-ion batteries with improved cycle-life, approaching 1000 cycles thus potentially overcoming an outstanding problem that has hampered progress for several decades. It is licensed to a company in China
